Peter Cat Recording Co – BETA

I visited India back in the last century. The places I saw were rich and diverse and although I was only there about 2 months or so it left a great impression on me. There wasn’t much of an American influence at the time, India doesn’t need it and any foriegn influence that does make it over, gets absorbed into the dense “Indianess” that dominates.

Peter Cat recording company and this amazing album in the antithesis of this great culture. It has prompted me to add my two rupees worth to this new endeavour of mine, The Album Club. How are you enjoying it by the way? I understand it’s a bit of a stretch for some of you used to listening to the same old music for the last 4 years…. Anyway back to BETA, a glorious mixtures of sonic musings that take you to Indian Film Musicials, English indie pop and all stopes in between. People Never Change, one of my stand out tracks, helps set the scene with that familiar Bhangra trope. I was pushing my palms in the air dammit! I am struggling to pick just two stand out tracks. 21c is a close second with the rest of the album all fighting for third place.

This rich and fulfilling album keeps me coming back despite the fact that it leaves me emotionally exhausted after the last track. Thats what we want don’t we?

When you have been listening to the same old music for the last 40 years, yes back to you again, it can be difficult to make a judgement as to whether or not certain music is good. Stay with me here… In our teens we had our friends or “Pier-group”. They were the litmus test, the cultural barometer if you will. Now we are older all we have left is the passion and our emotions and You Heard It Hear First and The Album Club, to guide you and bring you new music.

This is great music IT’S AMAZING MUSIC, honestly! You have to listen to it with headphones or buds or decent system and lsten to the whole album. That’s what The Album Club is all about.

Look …. it still might not be for you. But that’s music isn’t it? I love Matisse but I’m not a fan of Constable. That doesn’t diminish Constable. That’s art isn’t it?

10/10
