Listening to “My Method Actor” as a complete package in one sitting, you’ll find a fairly inoffensive, easy listening album. What you get here are the sort of songs you could loop that don’t outstay their welcome. None of the individual songs stand out; they all mesh together for a seamless and enjoyable time.
That said, it would be dismissive to write this off as standard lazy Sunday afternoon music. There are some layers and textures here that give a few of the songs an edge I wasn’t expecting. Take the titular “Method Actor,” for example; you have a mix of jazzy, bossa nova rhythms that ramp into a guitar overdrive. It feels kind of crunchy in places.
In summary, I think there is a lot to like here. If you are after some fun, easy tunes and a good time, you’ll get it. If you are someone who considers their musical tastes more refined, there are enough levels here for you to waffle on about how listening to this is like treading leaves underfoot as a warm summer rain washes over you or something.
Does what it needs to and will end up finding space in my playlist in future. 7/10
