Lake Street Dive – Good Together

This band are not my usual go-to genre (although I’m not 100% sure what genre they are) but given I generally favour much darker and heavier material the vibe that ensues is refreshing, bright and upbeat. Hints of Fleetwood Mac and retro 80s pop and even a touch of calypso somewhere, Lake Street Drive provide safe listening for those whose musical tastes are more latte than double espresso.

My personal picks from this album are Get Around, with its confident Kravitz-style swing and funkier rhythm. The title track Good Together provides a great opener – upon first listen I thought Scissor Sisters (not a bad thing IMHO) but its over chirpy, poppy positivity left me thinking it would really suit an ironic soundtrack overlay for some bar room brawl scene in a movie.

Overall, an album that will not live long in the memory but equally will not offend when listened to in public – and that’s no bad thing!
