I found this difficult to engage with. Although I do like this genre of music, there are many artists who do it better.
For me this album lacked something – hard to put my finger on it but it just didn’t move me. Perhaps it was the lyrics (lazy and derivative in places) or the overly American attitude (was it just me or did some of it feel a bit patriarchal?), or his voice which sounded a bit forced on some tracks, I don’t know. Angel was possibly the best track but not a patch on Michael Kiwanuka (as some have likened it to) who for me is in another league.
The chorus of Gemini Sun was catchy and I did quite like that, although I wouldn’t say I liked the whole song.
Sorry, wished I liked it more really but no. 4/10.
