Lettuce – Unify

Somehow I had heard of Lettuce before. Not sure how, might have been from some podcast, I really don’t recall. This jazzy, funky genre is not my usual thing but played at a recent family dinner, it went down very well and I quite enjoyed the upbeat nature and unobtrusive approach. I’d imagine a band like Lettuce on the live circuit would be pretty entertaining, the musicianship is very good and after a few margaritas I’m sure I’d almost feel like dancing along. “Everything’s Gonna Be Alright” reminded me of the early 80s jazz-funk that my sister used to like while explored more gothic darker tones. Now I’m older it actually comes over rather well, and I enjoyed the vibe. “The Lock” almost has a slight Zappa-esque jazz style to it – interested solos and a keen, lively rhythm. I also enjoy the Caribbean dub feel of “Insta-Classic” – it certainly has a different feel to most of the other tracks. Not quite one for my car journeys but certainly one to put on as an accompaniment to a sensible grown up gathering.

A cool 7/10
