Fontaines D.C. – Romance

I’ve been a fan of Fontaines D.C. since first hearing Boys in the Better Land on BBC 6 Music, leading me into their full discography of Irish indie/post-punk gloriousness.  With their fourth album, Romance, the band have matured into a richer, more layered, melodic sound, without losing their edge.  I think it’s their best yet.I was captivated from the off with the dark, theatrical title track Romance, which sets up the album beautifully.  This works as an album for me, with a mix of poetic and poignant tracks like Desire, contrasted with heavier tracks like Starburster (really enjoyed having this blaring into my ears whilst shopping in Waitrose today lol), Here’s The Thing and Death Kink (a nice touch of Pixies with this one).  Grian Chatten’s vocals are brilliant throughout, and the tracks are super-catchy with some great drumming I need to learn! It’s hard to pick a standout track as I really love the whole album. This one is firmly in my favourites, a solid 10/10.
