Heartworms – Glutton For Punishment

Glutton For Punishment – Heartworms

I do have a soft spot for edgy, vibrant female vocalists so coming across Heartworms (aka Jojo Ormes) was a rather pleasant surprise.

Hailing from from affluent middle-class Cheltenham, Heartworms (named after The Shins album of 2017) packs a mean punch of agit-pop, punk-dance and gothic rock variance with clear influences of Souixsie & the Banshees, PJ Harvey and more recently reminding me of Pumarosa and Nadine Shah.

The tracks are all crammed with urgency, some frantic others softly melodic. I can image Orme being electric live, so I’ll be checking out options for this later this year.

Enjoy the depth and regimental rhythm of this album – it’s a stand out for me so far in 2025. 9/10
