The Jay Groovara Band – Zombie Land

First off, great word play with “Che Guevara” for the band name. I really enjoy the 1970s punk rock and indie vibe the album has. The style gels well with the “do-it-yourself” and independant attitude of the tracks. In general I like the raw nature of the album and the way it wears its heart on its sleeve. You can tell there’s passion put into making the songs.

The stand out track for me is “Cats Eyes”, a really simple and catchy melody with an enjoyable beat and tempo. There’s something in that track as well as the songs “There’s Something in the Water” and “Kiss My Lips” that reminds me of John Carpenter’s approach, i.e. the ability to create simple and catchy themes without a ton of technical complexity.
