As with the others, I’d never come across Madrugada before. But from the first track I was drawn in. Sivert Høyem’s voice is deep and velvety, haunting and mesmerising and the songs took me from Nick Cave to REM to Richard Thompson to country.
Overall it’s an enjoyable album which I’d be happy to play on repeat as kind of background music. That’s not to downplay it at all, but it creates such a relaxed mood, an atmosphere, that it can play whilst you’re chatting, playing scrabble, chilling out with a beer in the garden etc and it just works.
Stand out tracks for me were Nobody Loves You Like I Do, Stabat Mater and Slowly Turns The Wheel.
A solid 9/10.
